Nope!  The Boy Scouts of America decided in 2019 to open their program to girls.  Girls and boys benefit from the same program generations have before.  We are now just 'Scouting', and the organization name is Scouting America.  Our girl troop is just one of many many troops across the US.

You will receive a Scout Handbook, the troop numerals for your Class A uniform and a Class B T-Shirt once you are registered and dues are paid. After your first campout you will receive your Troop Neckerchief and slide.

1. Sleeping bag and sleeping pad

2. Mess Kit (bowl/plate/cup/knife/fork/spoon) and a mesh bag to put it in

3. Flashlight an extra batteries

4. Rain Gear (pants and jacket)

5. Backpack for day hikes (school backpack works fine)

6. Pocketknife with a locking blade. This can be carried once the Scout earns their Totin' Chip, which certifies they completed training about, and can carry and use tools with, blades such as knives, saws and axes.

Well, that is great news!  It is easy to start a Patrol.  You need 2-3 girls (or more!) one adult female over the age of 18 to be Assistant Scoutmaster, and two more adults over the age of 21, one being female.  If you have those then you are ready to go!  Email the Committee Chair for the form to fill out and we will see you at the next Troop meeting! The agenda for each Patrol Meeting will be determined by the Patrol Leaders Council every month and carried out by the scouts.  All the ASM has to do is assist the scout in their task of leading the group.

Yes, yes and yes.  No Scout should EVER not be able to participate because of financial need.

1. At the time of online Annual Scout Registration a scholarship link is provided.

2. Discreetly speak with the Committee Chair for assistance Troop camping expenses.

3. Fundraising opportunities are plentiful and allow a scout to put money into their account to use for troop level expenses.

4. There is quite a bit of used gear on Facebook, check it out.  Also, let you Scoutmaster or ASM know if your scout needs gear.  The adults usually have a bead on who is holding extra gear incase a scout needs it.

5. Camperships are available to defray Summer Camp costs.

Fundraising is critical to the health of our Troop.  The money raised each year allows the troop to operate while charging minimal Troop dues.  It is also used for equipment, maintenance, awards and badges. Also, each scout has a "Scout Account", an account of money earned by the scout through fundraising.  The account can be used for expenses such as registration fees, uniform purchases, camping trip food and even summer camp.  Scout Account money is available to the Scout until they turn 21, or leave the Troop.  Any money left in a Scout's account is put in the Troop account.

Longhorn Council is our local council. The council covers a large area stretching far south of Waco, north of Denton to the OK line, east FTW to Arlington, and west to Possum Kingdom Lake.

Trinity Trails District is one of many districts within Longhorn Council. Our district area is SW Ft Worth, out to Aledo and down to Benbrook and Crowley.

LHC owns Worth Ranch, Camp Tahuaya, and Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.
